Swiss-British partnership unveils recyclable paper bottles by 2027
A Lucerne-based paper manufacturer has teamed up with a British firm to produce eco-friendly beverage bottles. Perlen Paper and Pulpex will create fully recyclable paper bottles, aiming to cut carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to glass. The partnership targets a 2027 launch in Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and southern Germany.
The collaboration focuses on replacing traditional packaging with lightweight, durable paper alternatives. These bottles will hold liquids like juices, water, milk, wine, spirits, cosmetics, and liquid foods. Their design ensures strength while keeping them fully recyclable.
Perlen Paper's CEO highlighted that the bottles meet growing demand for sustainable, resource-efficient packaging. Pulpex's broader mission is to replace over one billion plastic and glass bottles with paper versions by 2030.
Production will take place at Perlen's mill in Lucerne. The exclusive partnership covers the DACH region and Italy, with no immediate plans for additional global sites.
The paper bottles are set to enter the market by 2027, offering a greener option for drinks and liquid products. Their lightweight, recyclable design could significantly reduce packaging waste. The project aligns with wider efforts to cut emissions and promote circular economies.
