Two Common Foods That Could Be Harming Your Long-Term Health
Millions of Americans may be increasing their risk of serious diseases without realising it. Simple food choices, like drinking fruit juice or eating breaded chicken, could be contributing to long-term health problems. Dr. Frank Dumont, an internal medicine physician, has pointed out two common dietary mistakes that many people overlook.
Fruit juice is often seen as a healthy option, but it lacks the fibre found in whole, fresh fruit. This fibre helps balance blood sugar, improve insulin response, and support healthier cholesterol levels. Without it, blood sugar spikes more easily, and the body loses some of its natural defences against diabetes and heart disease.
Breaded chicken is another problem. The frying process soaks the meat in unhealthy trans fats or saturated fats, which raise 'bad' LDL cholesterol. Over time, these fats contribute to inflammation, stiffened arteries, and plaque buildup. The result can be high blood pressure, heart attacks, or strokes. Dumont advises making small but meaningful changes. Swapping fruit juice for whole fruit ensures better portion control and keeps fibre intact. Choosing grilled chicken over breaded and fried versions cuts out harmful fats while keeping the meal balanced and nutrient-rich.
Avoiding fruit juice and fried chicken could lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. These adjustments, along with a varied, fibre-rich diet, help maintain stable blood sugar and healthier cholesterol. Over time, such choices may reduce the likelihood of chronic illnesses linked to poor eating habits.
