Volga District's first arrhythmology forum unites 450 heart specialists in Nizhny Novgorod

The first arrhythmology forum for the Volga Federal District wrapped up in Nizhny Novgorod this week. Over 450 doctors and specialists took part, with around 250 attending in person and more than 200 joining online. The event brought together experts to tackle key challenges in heart health, from sudden cardiac death to the latest AI-driven treatments.

Organised by the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Ministry of Health and partner medical institutions, the forum covered a wide range of topics. Discussions included clinical and interventional arrhythmology, sports cardiology, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. A highlight was a hands-on seminar featuring 3D heart models and advanced X-ray contrast simulators, giving participants practical experience with cutting-edge technology.

The forum also showcased the region's progress in heart care. By the end of 2025, Nizhny Novgorod had performed over 1,600 arrhythmia surgeries, with an implant rate of roughly 500 procedures per million residents. New facilities, such as an outpatient monitoring centre and modern primary vascular units, were launched as part of the 'Long and Active Life' national project. This initiative aims to boost life expectancy by 2030 through healthcare upgrades and innovation. Experts at the event stressed the need for closer collaboration across medical fields. Their focus remained on reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases, particularly sudden cardiac arrest, through better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

The forum marked a step forward in regional efforts to improve heart health. New training opportunities and upgraded facilities now support doctors in the Volga Federal District. With ongoing projects like 'Long and Active Life,' the region continues to expand access to advanced cardiac care.
