Wesel is preparing for its next Health Awareness Week, running from April 20 to April 25, 2026. The event will offer workshops, lectures, and activities focused on nutrition, movement, and discrimination—with a particular emphasis on supporting people with immigrant backgrounds. Organisers have designed many sessions to be accessible, including options in plain language for wider participation. The week kicks off on April 20 at 2 p.m. in Wesel City Hall's Council Chamber. The mayor will open the event, followed by a lecture on 'Stress and Health' by Sabine Fabek-Fest. This revival follows a decision made at the October 2025 meeting of 'Wesel Connects', a networking group led by Integration Commissioner Lotte Goldschmidtböing, which brings together local organisations twice a year.
The programme covers topics like 'Healthy Nutrition', 'Optimal Movement', and 'Discrimination', targeting both the public and professionals. A detailed schedule is available in flyers at public institutions and as a PDF on the city's website. The City of Wesel is funding speaker and trainer fees, amounting to around €2,000.
The event builds on past initiatives, including the first 'Women's Health Week' in 2020, which paused during the pandemic before returning in 2022. This year's edition is organised by a network of partners specialising in support for immigrant communities. Health Awareness Week aims to provide practical information and resources to a diverse audience. Sessions are structured to be inclusive, with low-threshold options for easier access. The city's investment and collaborative planning reflect a commitment to public health and community engagement.
