So much snow is expected to fall in the Southwest - Winter Storm Sweeps Southern Germany with Snow and Strong Winds
A cold front is sweeping across southern Germany, bringing wintry weather to the Black Forest and Allgäu regions. Forecasters warn of snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions by the weekend.
Snowfall is expected to begin overnight, with light accumulations initially struggling to settle. By Saturday afternoon, conditions will shift, allowing snow to stick more easily. Areas between 600 and 800 meters could see up to five centimetres of fresh snow by evening.
At higher elevations—above 1,000 meters—up to 15 centimetres may fall. Strong wind gusts will add to the difficulties, particularly on exposed routes. The snow and wind will persist into Sunday, with intermittent flurries continuing near Lake Constance and across the Allgäu. Roads and pathways are likely to become icy, increasing the risk of slips and delays. Drivers and pedestrians are being urged to take extra care.
The wintry blast will create challenging conditions for travel and outdoor activities. Residents and visitors should check forecasts regularly and adjust plans to avoid unnecessary risks. Slippery surfaces and reduced visibility are expected to last through the weekend.
