Wolfenbüttel's Emergency Services Enter a New Era After 25 Years Under Dr. Heida

After 25 years of service, Dr. Ulrich Heida has stepped down as Medical Director of Emergency Services in Landkreis Wolfenbüttel. His departure marks the end of a long career dedicated to improving emergency care in the region. Helge Trauden, a seasoned emergency physician, has now taken over the role.

Dr. Heida first became Medical Director of the air rescue base in 1995, later leading the district's emergency medical services from 2001. As both an emergency paramedic and anesthesiologist, he brought direct experience to critical situations. His focus included securing and expanding emergency services, pushing for the preservation and growth of rescue stations.

During his tenure, he developed stronger response protocols for mass-casualty incidents. His leadership extended to the COVID-19 pandemic, where he oversaw Wolfenbüttel's vaccination centre. Between January 2021 and December 2022, the centre administered over 146,000 vaccine doses. Helge Trauden, who has worked as an emergency physician since 2007, supported Dr. Heida from 2018. An anesthesiology specialist and senior physician, Trauden now leads the emergency services. Since the start of the year, Wolfenbüttel Municipal Hospital has taken responsibility for these duties.

Dr. Heida's departure leaves a legacy of improved emergency care in the district. His successor, Helge Trauden, will continue managing the services, now under the oversight of Wolfenbüttel Municipal Hospital. The transition follows years of structured growth in emergency response capabilities.
