Woman Dies of Starvation in Bali Hotel After Extreme Fruit-Only Diet
A 27-year-old woman has died of starvation in a Bali hotel after following an extreme fruit-only diet for six months. Karolina Krzyzak, who had a history of anorexia, was found dead in her room in December 2024 after her health rapidly declined.
Krzyzak began the fruitarian diet in summer 2024, believing it would improve her well-being. By the time she checked into the hotel, she was so weak that staff had to carry her to her room. Her condition worsened quickly, leaving her unable to move without assistance.
Hotel employees followed her instructions and delivered only fruit to her room, despite her visibly deteriorating health. Staff even had to help her turn over in bed as her strength faded. A friend eventually raised the alarm, prompting hotel workers to check on her—only to find her body.
Experts have long warned that fruitarian diets lack essential nutrients. A dietitian confirmed such a regime can cause severe malnourishment, as fruit should make up no more than 25 to 30 percent of a balanced diet. The diet is not considered sustainable or safe for long-term health.
Krzyzak's death highlights the dangers of extreme dietary restrictions. Her case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with unbalanced eating habits. Authorities have not yet released further details on the investigation.
