Yakutia's mass health screenings uncover 9,000 hidden diseases in 2025
Over 400,000 residents in Yakutia participated in mandatory health screenings and preventive checkups in 2025. The program aimed to detect diseases early and assess health factors among the population. Officials reported over 9,000 previously undiagnosed cases as a result of the initiative.
The screenings targeted common health issues faced by Yakutia's population, including poor diets, low physical activity, and high cholesterol. Participants were grouped into risk categories to tailor follow-up care and prevention efforts.
Early detection was a key focus, with conditions like malignant tumours, heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory disorders identified. Health authorities emphasized that spotting these issues sooner allows for faster treatment and reduces the risk of serious complications.
Lena Afanasyeva, Yakutia's Minister of Health, highlighted the importance of regular checkups, especially for those with chronic illnesses or health risk factors. She described mandatory screenings as one of the most effective ways to protect public health. However, no public data exists comparing early diagnosis rates from 2024 to the 9,000 new cases found this year.
The 2025 screenings uncovered thousands of hidden health problems across Yakutia. By identifying diseases early and addressing health factors, the program aims to improve long-term outcomes for residents. Further preventive measures will now be guided by the risk group classifications established during the checks.
