Lawrenceville taqueria fails health inspection with shocking 44-point score

A recent health inspection at Taqueria in Lawrenceville revealed serious hygiene issues, resulting in a failing score. The restaurant received just 44 points, earning a 'U' for unsatisfactory. Meanwhile, other local eateries, including a long-standing burger spot, performed far better in their latest checks.

Inspectors found multiple violations at Taqueria in Lawrenceville. Raw chicken had been left thawing on a prep table for over two hours. A box of sauces was stored under a leaking cooler, risking contamination. Ants were also spotted crawling on the prep table, cutting board, and in employee food.

The restaurant's management claimed they had already addressed the pest problem. However, they later posted an older inspection report online, showing a 94-point score instead of the recent failing grade. Elsewhere in the city, Lions Restaurant on Buford Highway improved significantly. After a follow-up visit, it scored 97 points, securing an A rating. Mix'd Up Burgers, a Grant Park favourite for nearly 14 years, achieved a perfect 100 on its latest inspection. Known for its Boy That's Good burger—topped with pimento cheese, bacon bits, and fried onions—the restaurant also donates part of the burger's sales to charity. Health department records do not track how many other Georgia restaurants received a 'U' rating in the past year, leaving the broader trend unclear.

Taqueria in Lawrenceville must correct its violations before regaining a passing grade. The restaurant's management has acknowledged the issues but has yet to provide proof of full compliance. Meanwhile, other local spots like Mix'd Up Burgers and Lions Restaurant continue to meet or exceed health standards.
